Conversion hardness Tensile strength close to DIN EN ISO 18265

If no tensile test can be carried out on certain components, hardness tests are usually carried out. Subsequently, the hardness values ​​are converted into the tensile strength Rm using a so-called re-evaluation table according to DIN EN ISO 18265. Results from an empirical work on the revaluation of hardness in strength were presented there. The basis were statistically proven hardness tests and tensile tests.

The hardness conversion into the tensile strength is according to DIN EN ISO 18265 for the following materials unalloyed and low-alloyed steels; Steel castings; Treatable steels; Tool steel 1.1243; Tool steel 1.2714.The following is the hardness conversion tables for the above materials according to DIN EN ISO 18265:

The Brinell values ​​up to 450 HB were determined using a steel ball as indentor, the ones above with a hard metal ball. Bracketed numbers are hardness values ​​that lie outside the definition range. However, these can be used as approximations.
